About Us

We are a tiny, local nonprofit working diligently to ensure that all kids have access to books that they want to read. We are so thankful to all the people, organizations, and businesses that help us make this happen through their monetary and in-kind donations. It takes a HUGE amount of time, energy, effort, and love to get books into your hands so that you can get them to families and children who want them.

By receiving books from Brooklyn Book Bodega, you are considered an important member of our large and growing community. Read the below so that you understand our book fulfillment process and are equipped to make our impact and community even stronger.

Step 1: Receiving Books

Here are the steps to get books for your community. BY WORKING TOGETHER, WE ARE INCREASING THE NUMBER OF 100+ BOOK HOMES IN NYC FOR KIDS 0-18.

  1. You complete a book request form. (You already did this!)

  2. We respond via email or phone call within 3-5 business days and schedule an appointment at our book hub in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, 141 Flushing Avenue, Suite 407. We will discuss the two options of how to receive books (1) you self select the books or (2) our volunteers select and pack the books for you. Appointments are typically scheduled 1-2 weeks after we receive your request.

  3. We share this page which explains Steps 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the Book Fulfillment Process (receiving books and follow up tasks) and require you to send an acknowledgement via email to continue in the process.

  4. You receive a parking pass to enter the Brooklyn Navy Yard. If you are self-selecting books for your community, you will have a 45 minute appointment. You may bring one other person with you (age 13+); children under 13 are not allowed in the book hub.
